Herceg Novi

Herceg Novi is a coastal town in Montenegro, located at the entrance of the Bay of Kotor and at the foot of Mount Orjen. Herceg Novi, which means "New Fortress", is one of the important tourism centers of Montenegro. Also known as a spa and wellness centre; nearby Igalo has seawater mud called “igaljsko blato” (Igalo mud) and mineral water springs called “igaljske slatine” (Igalo water springs).

The most famous tourist attractions in Herceg Novi are Forte Mare Castle, built in 1382 by the Bosnian king Tvrtko I, a clock tower built by the Austrians in the 19th century, Kanli Kula built by the Turks, and the Serbian church St. It is Belavista Square.

The city has many beaches along Boka Bay. Tourist companies organize one-day boat trips to the Luštica peninsula. Zelenika, also a small town in Herceg Novi, is also very popular for strolling along the Montenegro coast.

Herceg Novi was known as Castelnuovo ("New castle" in Italian) between 1482 and 1797, when it was part of the Ottoman Empire, Venice, and Albania. It is called Herceg Novi in Montenegrin, Castelnuovo in Italian, and Neòkastron (Νεοκαστρον) in Greek. They all mean 'new castle'.

Built in 1382 by the Bosnian king Tvrtko I, Forte Mare Fortress is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Herceg Novi.

Bloody Kula Fortress

Kanli Kula, built by the Turks. The structure was established as a defensive fortification during the Ottoman Empire and later used as a prison.

Mamula Island is located at the entrance of the bay between Lustica and Herceg Novi. The castle on the island covers about 90% of the island. This castle was built in 1853 by the Austro-Hungarian admiral Lazar Mamula to protect the region against enemies.

The Luštica peninsula is the main sightseeing destination for tourists in Herceg Novi. It has the best beaches and resorts in the municipality of Herceg Novi, including Žanjice, Mirište, Arza and Dobreč.

It is a Serbian Orthodox monastery of three churches near the city of Herceg Novi in the Bay of Kotor. We can see beautiful parts of Montenegro Coast. The monastery has numerous relics from the Nemanjić dynasty (remains of Empress Jelena, St. Sava's cross), including those transferred from the Tvrdoš Monastery.

Žanjice Beach

Žanjice Beach,  The "presidential" beach on the Lustica peninsula is a 10-minute drive from Herceg Novi.
