Home to 185,937 people, which is almost 30% of all Montenegrin population, Podgorica is the most populous and the capital city of Montenegro. Although the former and historical capital city Cetinje hosts many national institutions such as the presidential seat and the national archive, Podgorica is still the administrative, financial and cultural center.
Situated in the fertile of Zeta Plain, Podgorica area has been inhabited since 54 AD as the ancient Roman city of Doclea. Later testifying the Slavic, Ottoman and Venetian rules; Montenegro, and in particular Zeta Region, has always been desired by great empires.
Nowadays, a modern city with shopping malls, comfy hotels & restaurants, and a renowned university, Podgorica harbors a neighboring green landscape, and ancient, Ottoman and Orthodox heritage side-by-side.
